As you all know, Genine has been overseas for about four weeks now. Well actually, nearly five long, painful (for me) weeks. Praise the Lord and pass the butter – she’s back! And in breaking news, she’s a tad tubby… yippee!
Before you all launch into what a hideous friend I am, hear me out. Genine has spent the last few weeks travelling the UK and Europe. She has eaten chocolate in Belgium, croissants in France, tapas in Spain. She pretty much abandoned her diet and decided to eat her way around Europe, and this makes me happy (see below).
I know what you’re thinking … what a complete bitch! How dare I celebrate the fact that Genine has a little more junk in her trunk? How dare I celebrate the fact that my business partner and BFF has stacked on the pounds? How dare I call myself a friend?
Well people, there’s a bloody good reason that I’m excited to see a curvier, rounder Genine return to our shores, and it has nothing to do with vanity, jealousy or competitiveness, although I did aspire to look just like super fit Genine not that long ago (check out my post here).
Drum roll please … Genine is pregnant.
Yep, up the duff. With child. Preggers. Fourteen weeks to be exact, and I couldn’t be happier for my beautiful friend and her spunky husband. (And of course, it has been totally killing me that I couldn’t say anything to anyone, but we had to wait for them to get back and have the required scans and tests to ensure everything was tickity boo – but I’m officially allowed to spill the beans. Thank God!)
All those “Genine boozing it up in Europe” photos were staged (see below). She spent the last four weeks drinking mineral water, not swilling Belgium beer. Not the best of timing, but hell, who cares? Genine is pregnant (as seen in the photo below, and yes, I know, she’s not fat – but how cute is her little tummy?)
You see, this is Genine and Rowan’s fourth attempt at becoming parents. I know – fourth. Life can be a bitch. They didn’t even want to have kids and they were a-okay about their decision. But about two years ago they accidentally fell pregnant and it didn’t take long for them to realise that having a family was actually what they wanted. I think my adorably cute son also wore them down a bit … but I’m biased.
Fast-forward to today. After three painful miscarriages, they have finally struck the baby jackpot. Fourth time lucky! And yes, I’m a tad excited about becoming an aunty. Genine and Rowan are very special, not just to us but to our son, and Simon and I can’t wait to love their little one just as they love ours. Of course, I am tearing up as I write this post. SO HAPPY!
It’s official … Alli & Genine (okay, Rowan & Genine) are HAVING A BABY! And here is his / her first pic …
Let the fun and games (and pregnancy posts) begin!
Alli x
PS – Genine said to tell you all she will post more about her news soon. Stay tuned!

omg, how wonderful!
I saw the headling and instantly thought, “fat? you mean she now casts a shadow where before she didn’t??” I’ve always been just a bit envious of tall, slender, beautiful women.
Oh please invite me to one of the baby showers? I LOVE buying baby gifts!
Best of luck to you, Genine, your life will never be the same – much better.
Congratulations Genine, and best wishes for your new family!

I am so happy to read this amazing news. Many years ago I was given a card that said having a baby fills up a part in your heart that you didn’t even know was empty!! Big Morley Hugs xxx
Congratulations, such exciting news. Best advice a friend once told me….just because you’re worried doesn’t mean there is something wrong, it just means you care. I was a nervous pregga lady as I too had lost one. Best advice, kept me sane
I was so giggly excited when I saw the post this morning, it made me realise the good guys (girls) win out in the end.
Fingers crossed for a little bit of fairy dust for the rest of us.
Fantastic news Genine – thrilled for you! Alli will make a fabulous aunt xxxx
